Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis

A Yoga Wellness Multiple Sclerosis class addresses the symptomatic conditions of MS through the appropriate adaptation and application of yoga practices. Class sessions are designed to enhance balance and coordination, and increase body awareness to maintain and improve muscle strength.

Sessions also address symptoms of:

  • Cognitive Impairment
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Digestion
  • Neuropathy

The intention is to improve life function by reducing the symptoms of suffering that can be reduced and managing the symptoms that cannot be reduced.

Students must be able to walk a flight of stairs as there is no elevator access.

Participants in a Yoga Wellness Multiple Sclerosis class can expect to:

  • enhance breath and body awareness
  • reduce or manage the symptomatic conditions relating to MS
  • improve function, range of motion and balance
  • increase circulation and flexibility
  • release chronic contraction
  • stabilize what is unstable and strengthen what is weak
  • experience relaxation and meditation

Viniyoga means "appropriate application" or "to notice and begin where you are right now". It is a therapeutic specific practice that addresses the muscular structure, physiological and emotional body.

What Multiple Sclerosis Students Say:

My name is Arlene McDougall and I have been a client of Edie's for 6 years. I have MS and when I first came to yoga I had no sense of body awareness which made helping my body function to the best of it's ability impossible. I do private sessions once or twice per week and our practices depend on how well I am doing that day. I am a very active person and I believe that without yoga I would not be as healthy as I am. I have found that my MS symptoms are more manageable and I am better able to cope. I would recommend Edie's therapeutic yoga to anyone with or without health issues as yoga when applied correctly benefits everyone. You will be amazed at not only the changes in your body but also your overall well being.
