Fitness Classes

A Yoga Wellness Fitness class incorporates therapeutic practices adapted for the stronger more athletic body. Sessions enhance health through the addition of cardio, deeper body strengthening, flexibility and balance practices.

Yoga Wellness recommends that students have a level of core, back, and leg strength prior to registering for this class.

Participants in a Yoga Wellness Fitness Class can expect to:

  • improve breath and body awareness
  • enhance performance in the athletic sport, program or activity you are in
  • improve function, range of motion and balance
  • increase flexibility
  • stabilize what is unstable and strengthen what is weak
  • experience relaxation and meditation

Fitness Classes Include:

  • Focus on core, thigh, groin, and back strengthening
  • Use of repetition with quick movement and a strong exhalation to obtain a more cardiovascular practice
  • Use of light weights for strengthening
  • Corrective exercises for balancing the body
  • Purification exercises
  • Body knowledge and awareness techniques

A fitness practice is largely a combination of Japanese Zen (Okido, Kyoto, Shiatsu,) Yin/Yang, Vinyasa, and Kundalini yoga synchronized with breath.

Okido is a combination of martial arts and yoga.

Kyoto is used for body strengthening.

Shiatsu incorporates range of movement that gently massages the body, and includes self acupressure and massage techniques.

Kundalini is Taoist, the most ancient of the yogas, and stimulates energy in the body through the chakra philosophy.

Yin and Yang is from Taoist yoga and is excellent for releasing connective tissue and building muscle.

Vinyasa is movement and sequence methodology.

What Students Say

"I really appreciate Edie's down to earth personality, which makes me feel quite comfortable in her class. As a massage therapist, I am interested in the therapeutic benefits of each yoga pose, and Edie educates her students about each pose she presents. She considers all experience levels and offers modifications to meet people's needs, as well as offering challenges for those with a little more experience. Edie always tries to accommodate special requests. I really like that she begins each session with a new goal in mind that she builds on throughout the 10 weeks. As a visual person I appreciate the handouts Edie provides for reference. All in all, a great class with a lot to offer anyone who is considering to include yoga in their life."

Cynthia Christensen, Massage Therapist

"Yoga is one of the main ingredients helping me to build a better body, both within and without."
